Well, this is exciting — my first New Book Release post.

Okay, okay, so between you and me it’s not actually my first published book. I’ve actually written three, all self published a few years ago. Back then, I had no idea what I was doing, and I made a bunch of mistakes, but the biggest was that I didn’t give any thought to my brand. The books were all romance, but in wildly different sub-genres (fantasy, contemporary and spy-adventure), and even though I had a blast with them, my business hat has seen plenty of wear since then and I pulled them from sale.

So, this is kind of my first book, but kind of not really.

Let’s just say that it’s my first book that:

  • Is written in the sub-genre I want to specialise in (Historical Scottish Romance)
  • Is the beginning of a consistent series that will span 6–7 books in total, plus a handful of novellas.

So apart from that, woohoo! New book release!

A Promise to Be Kept is the first book in the Legacy of the Laird series.

What’s the Legacy of the Laird? Boy, am I glad you asked, because I have this blurb cooked up just for you.

Legacy of the Laird

____________________

“We’re all shaped by him, one way or another.”

The old Laird McCaskill of Dun Lagaidh is long dead.

To those who served him, he was a petty tyrant. To his family, a cold and distant man. And to his enemies, the old Laird was an implacable foe, obsessed with strength and its exertion over others. Even now, after years in the cold earth, his legacy lives on to touch all those around him.

Two sons, once close, who allowed their father to take them down very different paths.

The old Laird’s faithful lieutenant, a feared man in his own right, twisted and broken.

The Laird of the McPhees, the neighbouring clan who were once so close, only to bear the brunt of the old Laird’s merciless thirst for conflict.

And all those who fell under his protection, condemned to a lifetime of war and fear.

And yet, even under the shadow of his memory, hope still survives. These are the tales of those who cast their defiance back into the teeth of the old Laird, and live their days to the full. The tales of love and laughter, husbands and wives, friendships and families.

These are the tales of those who defy the legacy of the Laird.

Ahem. I don’t want to use this blog to pimp myself out, so I’ll leave the hard selling to a minimum and leave it at that.

The book is available now in both paperback and e-book, and I’m releasing it exclusively on Amazon as part of the Kindle Unlimited program. Here’s a link to the US store:

A Promise to Be Kept

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be writing about the release and post-release process for those who are interested, including how I’ve (rather pathetically) tried to market the book and secure early reviews. I won’t actually know how successful I was until next week, so I’ll either have a hugely informative blog post, or I’ll be in the corner eating copious amounts of chocolate ice cream.
